2025 Winter Field Day:
Jan 25-26, 2024 (Saturday 11am - Sunday 11am)
Winter Field Day is once again coming around and we are getting prepared to face the cold and make some QSOs! Besides fun, our main goal this year is to go head to head with the local club KU9R and show them they won't be able to "fry our bacon".
This year our location will be a bit different, we will be setting up at the QTH of N9TD. For those who attended NAQP last fall, this is the same location. Setup will begin at 8AM on Jan. 25th and the event starts at 11AM and will conclude at 11AM on the 26th. Please note we will only operate 24hrs of the 30hr event.
Event Location:
8424 S 650 W Pendleton IN 46064

Equipment Sign Up
Like our past WFD operations, we will be operating as 2O (two-station outdoor) and will need your help to make this happen. In this email, there is a link to a Google spreadsheet that outlines the list of equipment we are expecting to need for the event. If you are willing please find an item and put your name next to it to indicate you will bring it to the event. Some items need more than one person on the list so feel free to double up. Questions should be posted in the WFD discord channel of the main N9BCN discord server.
Operating Schedule
In the past, we have had operating schedules but failed to follow them. The goal this year is to follow the operating schedule as closely as possible. The exception to this rule is if someone is running a pile-up or has a high-rate run during the changeover period. Please wait for a natural lull in the run to switch. In this case, situational awareness of the operator is encouraged to be fair to the next op.
The sign-up link for setup, teardown, and operating schedule is below. By default, we will have a single op per station for a given time slot. There is an option to request a logger at each timeslot and is encouraged if you would like operating support and training.
Finally, at all times each station is available for anyone to come and observe and learn. This WFD station #1 will be a larger clamshell tent (same as the SFD tent) and is the preferred station to observe our operations from as station #2 is the smaller ice fishing hut.
Food
Food will be provided by the club for lunch on the 25th and dinner on the 25th. As always it is appreciated if you would consider contributing back to the club via the Paypal link on the website. N9TD will provide drinks and some snacks for the duration of the event. If you would like to bring snacks or other food items let N9TD know as it would be appreciated. Breakfast on the 26th is still TBD as numbers are unclear. If someone would like to bring coffee and doughnuts or similar let N9TD know as this would be appreciated.
Food will be located inside the house and the living room will serve as the main spot for socializing when you are not at the operating station.
Overnight Accommodations
If you are considering working the late night shift and would rather not drive home in the middle of the night, N9TD is offering guest bedroom beds/cots to get a few hours of sleep in so you are refreshed and ready to get back on the radio. Contact N9TD for availability.
